I’ll be heading to Halifax in just over two weeks to begin the Hi, It’s Me book tour. Then it’s through the Maritimes and onto Toronto for the evening of the 23rd! Full details about the Ontario launches below.
My author copies arrived last week which means the novel is filling a whole shelf in my office. I’ve been reflecting lately on the trajectory of my career, and how I’ve changed as a writer and a person over a decade or so of publishing. Sometimes I feel totally lost, like I have no idea what it is I want to say with my work or whether I’ve even gotten close yet, and other times I feel with each new project I am fine-tuning my voice.
Hi, It’s Me is different than anything else I’ve written. It would have been impossible for me to write it dishonestly. Grief, for me, was so disorienting, consuming, transformative… by the end of this manuscript I felt I’d finally gotten a hold of myself. I started in a daze and wrote myself into the place I am now.
All that to say, I am so grateful to everyone who gave time, energy, work, and care to the book through all stages of the editorial cycle. I’m excited to see it begin to make its way into bookstores and onto friends’ bookshelves.
I hope you like it!
Toronto Launch—Flying Books 784 College St. Toronto Sept 23 @ 6:30pm
Hosted by Naben Ruthnum, author of A Hero of Our Time and featuring a reading by Ben Robinson who is launching his new collection, As Is, published by ARP.
I’m so thrilled to be joined by these two, especially as part of my hometown launch. Naben hosted the launch of What We Both Know, which was an event shared with André Forget for the launch of his Giller-nominated novel In the City of Pigs, and Ben read at the 2021 launch of my novel Dumb-Show.
Ottawa Launch—Perfect Books 258 Elgin St. Ottawa Sept 24 @ 7pm
When I was running the Montreal-based magazine Bad Nudes (co-founded with Thomas Molander and Sandy Spink), we held a few of our release parties in Ottawa, often in writers’ living rooms. I was also lucky enough to read at the Ottawa International Writers Fest in 2022. It will be great to be back and see friends, family, and colleagues I don’t get to spend enough time with!
Hamilton Launch—The Printed Word 16 McMurray St. Unit 3 Sept 27 @ 7pm
I’ll be joining Ben Robinson again for a co-launch of As Is and Hi, It’s Me! Also featuring Steacy Easton, who will be launching Dolly Parton’s White Limozeen, a new title in the 33 1/3 series.
If you’re in Montreal, Charlottetown, (or maybe even somewhere else), I’ll be writing again to update about further launches. See you soon!
